Built upon a women-specific last, the Ion is intended for those seeking a more supportive yet minimalist shoe for rugged runs in the alpine. Combining an air mesh upper with a synthetic leather exoskeleton for superb lateral stability and a protective toe rand, it is ideal for rocky trails, talus and broken terrain. Underfoot, the female-designed chassis uses a 14mm heel counter and a 8mm forefoot, and a 1.2mm high-density EVA trail plate for a minimal feel with exceptional trail protection. A partial integrated stretch tongue gaiter underneath the lacing/tongue area keeps trail debris out of the shoe, while a heel rand delivers a responsive, performance fit. A sticky rubber compound aids traction in alpine terrain, through talus, and broken terrain.
